TECHNICAL CONSULTANT

ABOUT THE POSITION

If you are a highly skilled consultant who can handle a wide variety of technical tasks for business clients such as research, design, procurement, implementation, and maintenance, this is an excellent opportunity for you.

You will be implementing enterprise class solutions to businesses which are expanding or desiring to improve their technology. We manage and maintain all aspects of our client's network and function as their on-site Information Technology Specialist. You will have regularly scheduled sessions each week with your clients allowing you to develop great relationships and become an integral part of their business.

Our clients are located throughout the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area which encircles an area from Katy to The Woodlands to Baytown and to Texas City. You will typically work during the client’s normal business hours, but will need to work after hours in case of migrations or emergencies.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Expert knowledge of Personal Computers, Servers, and Network Architecture

  • Expert knowledge of networking standards, protocols, security, troubleshooting, and performance tuning and monitoring

  • Extensive experience in system design and architecture, from a consulting perspective

  • Extensive experience in system administration, including system maintenance, workstation support, Internet connectivity, load monitoring

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing backup solutions, and auditing existing backup solutions to analyze effectiveness

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing antivirus solutions for the entire IT organization including email and firewall protection

  • Extensive experience in analyzing remote access needs, recommending a variety of remote access solutions, implementing and managing those solutions

  • Extensive experience in performing security audits, knowledge of appropriate tools and software required to perform security audits, proposing and implementing security best practices

  • Extensive experience in hardware and software provisioning, installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Expert knowledge of LAN/WAN networking, servers, workstations, operating systems, and applications

  • Expert knowledge of best practices for email, Internet access, hardware, backup, antivirus, security, remote access, LAN technologies

  • Extensive experience troubleshooting network clients and servers

  • Extensive experience documenting thoroughly and appropriately the entire IT framework

RELEVANT REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Microsoft Certified Professionals - MCP/MCSA/MCSE

  • Exchange 2000 and 2003 installation and support

  • Windows 2000 and 2003 server including SBS

  • Active Directory installation and management

  • TCP/IP configuration and troubleshooting, including complex routing, firewalls, and protocol analysis

  • Installation, configuration, and issue resolution knowledge of firewalls, security, and VPN’s
    Internet, intranet, LAN services (AD, DNS, WINS, DHCP, RRAS, RPC, etc)

  • Web servers – IIS & Portal Server technology including Microsoft SharePoint

  • Backup hardware and software with exemplary skill configuring successful backup solutions
    Cisco configuration and troubleshooting (CCNA / CCNP is a plus).

  • Experience with SMTP, IMAP, and POP3; diagnoses and resolves problems associated with cross-platform mail; performs standard mail migrations and monitors mail gateways and directory exchange functions and SMTP log monitoring

  • Consulting with business owners regarding the interrelation of the information systems’ costs with the business value proposition
